বাংলাদেশে নিযুক্ত মালদ্বীপের হাইকমিশনার শিউনীন রশিদ ঢাকায় নৌবাহিনী সদর দপ্তরে বাংলাদেশ নৌবাহিনীর প্রধান অ্যাডমিরাল এম. নাজমুল হাসানের সঙ্গে সৌজন্য সাক্ষাৎ করেন।
সাক্ষাৎকালে দুই দেশের মধ্যকার পারস্পরিক সহযোগিতা, সামুদ্রিক নিরাপত্তা এবং দ্বিপাক্ষিক সম্পর্ক উন্নয়নসহ বিভিন্ন বিষয়ে আলোচনা হয়। হাইকমিশনার শিউনীন রশিদ বাংলাদেশ নৌবাহিনীর পেশাগত অগ্রগতি ও আঞ্চলিক শান্তি ও স্থিতিশীলতায় ভূমিকার প্রশংসা করেন।

অ্যাডমিরাল নাজমুল হাসান মালদ্বীপে তার পূর্ববর্তী দায়িত্ব পালনের সময়ের অভিজ্ঞতা শেয়ার করেন এবং কোভিড-১৯ মহামারির চ্যালেঞ্জিং সময়ে মালদ্বীপ সরকারের সহযোগিতার জন্য কৃতজ্ঞতা প্রকাশ করেন।
সাক্ষাৎটি উভয় দেশের বন্ধুত্বপূর্ণ সম্পর্ক আরও জোরদার করতে সহায়ক হবে বলে আশা প্রকাশ করা যাচ্ছে ।
High Commissioner Shiuneen Rasheed paid a courtesy call on Admiral M. Nazmul Hassan, Chief of Naval Staff of Bangladesh, at the Naval Headquarters in Dhaka.
Admiral Nazmul, who previously served as the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to the Maldives, warmly welcomed High Commissioner Shiuneen. Reflecting on his tenure in the Maldives, particularly during the challenging period of the COVID-19 pandemic, he commended the country’s remarkable recovery and expressed gratitude for the support extended by the Government of the Maldives.
High Commissioner Shiuneen expressed her deep appreciation for Admiral Nazmul’s contributions, particularly in facilitating the repatriation of Maldivian students from Bangladesh and Nepal and coordinating the deployment of a Bangladeshi naval vessel carrying essential supplies to the Maldives during the height of the pandemic. She also conveyed her gratitude for his continued support, in his current capacity as Chief of Naval Staff, towards strengthening cooperation with the Maldives National Defence Force and the Coast Guard.
Their discussions focused on expanding collaboration in the military and naval sectors, with both sides underscoring the importance of joint training and capacity-building programmes to enhance operational capabilities, particularly in coastal protection and maritime security.
High Commissioner Shiuneen also briefed Admiral Nazmul on the Government of the Maldives’ initiatives to combat irregular migration and its ongoing efforts to regularise undocumented workers. Admiral Nazmul acknowledged the significance of this issue and commended the Maldives for its proactive approach.
Admiral Nazmul also assured the High Commissioner of his continued support and assistance to the Maldives in the naval sector.
Recognising Bangladesh’s growing shipbuilding industry and the Maldives’ evolving maritime security requirements, both sides explored avenues to deepen defence and naval cooperation, laying the foundation for future collaboration
